Things I Love to Do

IMG_0102I think the title of this blog is funny, because I don’t really feel guilty about the things that I enjoy. I’ve come to believe that “self care” is really important. It helps us to keep a positive clear outlook on life. It helps us to be the kind of people we should be–generous, kind, optimistic. It helps us to see God’s hand gently guiding our lives. Taking care of ourselves is one of the most important things we can do.

Still, I like the title “My Guilty Pleasure.” What immediately pops into my mind is hiding on the front porch, eating a bowl full of Blue Bell ice cream. Ha! It’s those things that might not make sense to anyone else, but they bring a smile to your lips and a tingle of joy to your heart.

So here we go–some of my guilty pleasures.

  1. Reading in the hammock
  2. Playing the piano
  3. Eating sweets
  4. Spending time with family or friends, even when I have work to do
  5. Binge watching a television series

Well those weren’t too terrible. How about you? Do you have any guilty pleasures?

I draw one winner from each post’s comment section. If your name is drawn, I’ll send you a paperback book of my choice from my supply closet. If it’s one you already have, you can donate the unsigned copy to your local library or a friend. Our last winner was Marily R.

Blessings,

V

Younger folks won’t understand this but 30, 40 years ago hospital stays were very much longer. You could be in for two weeks just for observation. New mothers stayed two weeks before going home with the baby. I remember my mother and grandmother saving a new robe, new nightie or new pair of slippers “in case” they had to be in the hospital. And both of them passed with a new robe, new nightie and new slippers waiting to be used. My guilty pleasure is to use those “good” things in the here and now. Whoever gets to clean out my house when I go will more than likely not want what I considered to be the “good” stuff. Better to use, indulge in, go to, all those things you are saving for later.

I totally agree, and what a lovely way of framing that thought! Thanks from someone who remembers life 30-40 years ago pretty well. 😉

I guess my top guilty pleasure would be reading a book when I should be cleaning. Enjoy a chocolate candy bar when I should have something healthier. Keep up the wonderful writing Vannetta. Blessings, Cheryl Baranski CherylB1987 AT hotmail DOT com

Oh, my! Where do I begin? My guilty pleasures include reading and napping in my cozy corner recliner, indulging in specialty coffees from Starbucks (from gift cards given by my kiddos at school), also binge watching a TV series (lately the Great British Bake-off), and cruising facebook. I also asked my sister and nephew theirs, but that’s “a whole nother story!”

My guilty pleasure would include reading when I should be cleaning or working on another project–I really enjoy sitting outside to read. Today was a perfect fall day for that. Another guilty pleasure is having a pepsi after a stressful day at work, eating peanut butter on vanilla wafers or graham crackers.

I laughed when I read your guilty pleasures. I had a Pinterest board named Guilty Pleasures one time and changed it to Pleasures of Life.
I made two of my smaller bedrooms into libraries a few years after my daughters married. They are “slap” full (I don’t know if you have ever heard that expression) of books in shelves equipped with a window seat long enough I can stretch out on. That’s my main pleasure. My husband & kids always say “like you need another book” when I go to bookstores or order books so I sorta feel guilty for buying more when I got enough to read for a very long time without reading the same book twice.
Then my other main thing is eating sweets when I know better. I’m a diabetic. So I do have to be careful on this one.

Reading while having popcorn, chocolate and a Coca Cola would be the top of my guilty pleasure list. Sometimes I have an apple too. Also reading while should be doing housework etc. The clothesline bag is awesome–I loved hanging out laundry when I lived where I could. It would look great hanging on a laundry room wall. I remember those longer hospital stays and having “good” items to take. I agree, we should use them now, no one in my family will want them.

As GRAVER on Find A Grave.com, I relish finding memorials that need additional information or connections. If I can find family members, dates of birth or death, or places of birth or death, I send edits to the memorial maker, hoping they will accept the edit.

    This makes the memorial better
